Itinerary

Upon your arrival, check in to your hotel in the centre of this historic and lovely town. You can wander the cobblestoned streets and squares, visit the Collegial church, and see the Ducal Palace, all with the aid of our self-guided walking tour. We highly recommend you take the time to tour the Hospices de Beaune – a 15th century charity hospital, whose history is also linked to the region’s wine heritage. Or simply relax on the shaded terrace of a café, before your dinner tonight in one of our favourite local restaurants.

Meet your guide after breakfast at your hotel. You drive a short ways northwards, into the heart of the Pinot Noir Grand Crus. Your guide will stop often, teaching you about the unique Burgundian appellations, showing you what is happening in the vineyards, and explaining how to understand a wine label from the region. You will have, of course, some practical application with a first wine tasting as you wander northwards along the Route des Grands Crus. You’ll see the 15th century Clos de Vougeot, as well as stop to give proper homage to the most renowned (and expensive!) vineyard of them all, the Romanee Conti. Lunch awaits you in a small winery in Gevrey Chambertin; along with the delicious regional meal, you will taste and compare 8 different wines, including several Grand Crus! Afterwards, make your way back to Beaune with a final tasting, again with prestigious Grand Crus, by the Corton hillside, returning by late afternoon. Dinner tonight on your own, with our varied list of restaurant suggestions.

Today your guide takes you southwards, through the many small villages of the Cote de Beaune. You will stop to learn the history and character of great red wine villages like Pommard and Volnay, but you are heading into the heart of the Chardonnay Kingdom, to the villages of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, where they produce some of the best white wines in the world! After seeing the famous Montrachet vineyard, your first visit awaits, where you can admire spectacular medieval cellars before tasting several wines. Then back to Puligny-Montrachet for another delicious wine tasting lunch. This time, the gourmet fare is accompanied by 7 wines – mostly whites from this famous white wine region. You will taste and compare, helped by your guide and the winery’s sommelier. En route back to Beaune, your final tasting is at a small boutique winery, whose organic winemaker will also explain the advantages of this more natural approach to winemaking during your visit and tasting. Back to Beaune at the end of the afternoon, filled with the knowledge and flavours of this great wine region.

Your Burgundy Guided Wine Tour has sadly come to an end; after a final breakfast, you can catch the train from the Beaune station, for your continued travels. Bon Voyage!
